BMW are definitely trying their best to capitalise on the success of their 1200GS model by bringing out some spanking looking, brand new BMW motorcycles. These are some great photos of the new F800 and K1200GT.

Mind you most new bikes look great dont they? I just have to look at a new motorcycles, whether its a BMW or a Hyosung and a scratch miraculously appears out of nowhere, usually on the gas tank right in the eye line....

I found a nice little article that is based around a Progressive Insurance study on motorcycle insurance. It gives a list of those bikes most and least likely to be stolen or crashed. The "least likely to be stolen" list made me think. Would anyone really want a motorbike that nobody else wanted? (just kidding, I know you all love your bikes, if its got two wheels and a motor its fine by me!)

Everything is going in our favour, but please remeber as you are reading this that while $2 a gallon may seem astronomical, in the UK the price at the pump is a whopping $7 a gallon! Yes you read that right, SEVEN DOLLARS A GALLON! You can understand why there are so many Brits hiring cars in Florida...maybe they should hire a Harley instead!

I just saw some news that warmed the cockles of my heart! Not only have Harley Davidson reprted record earnings for 2004, but bike sales in general climbed by 5%, making motocycle sales the highest since 1979!

What is Valentino on?

I was flicking through the magazines in the local store today (what you think I buy these things? Theres no money in the internet you know!) and I came across a great article on Valentino Rossi, or "The Doctor " as he is sometimes known. I read it with interest because it confirmed what I had thought for a while; the best bike in Moto GP is the Honda, as ridden by Biaggi, Barros, Edwards, et al. However, the best team in the Moto GP is Yamaha......
So why the difference? Is it just down to Valentino's talent, (plus whatever the current Mrs Rossi is giving him before he races?)
Yes.
And, er, no.
Let me explain....
The best bike is Honda. They have about 6 riders currently riding Hondas who can give Yamaha a run for their money. However, the main lead team is Repsol Honda, who have Barros riding for them. Why? Because Repsol are from Brazil, Barros is from Brazil, and Barros helps Repsol sell lots of petrol in Brazil.
But he is not a great rider. Good, but four wins in over 200 starts aint going to win any championships, no matter how good the bike is.
Now then it starts to get complicated...
Because of the "contractual arrangements between honda and Repsol, Barros is the lead rider, possibly the worst of the riders on Hondas at the moment. He gets all the new developments first, and cant do anything with them!
That cock up, plus the fact that Rossi is the most talented rider possibly ever, is the reason honda are trailiing a sorry second and will continue to do so in the near future...
....Until Rossi starts driving for Ferrari that is....

What comes after "Long Way Round"?

Theres a big hole in my weekly viewing schedule as of tonight; the last episode of "Long Way Round", the T.V. programme featuring Ewan Magregor and Charley Boorman making their way from london to New York via Western Europe, Russia, Ukraine, Mongolia, the "Road of Bones", Alaska, Canada and various states across the USA. What a great programme that was! The book and DVD are definitely on my Xmas list; as for emulating the boys little trip, it could be a struggle fitting it in around the kids after school activities (Let me think, how far could I get on a road trip and get back in time for swim team?) I can dream though.
One thing I did notice on the last episode though; when the boys visited Orange County Choppers, was it me or did the Teutels seem awfully quiet? Mind you I think anyone is entitled to be a little starstruck in the presence of a Jedi Master, what do you think?
The BMW bikes really performed on the trip desipte being patched up at various stages along the way. mind you I thought the boys did overload them just a little... I thought they were gonna produce the kitchen sink out of one of those side panniers, they seemed to have everything else on there!
So what do I fill the void with? Dont tell me I have to watch re runs of the GreatBiker Build Off again.....
I suppose I could update my website a little, Motorcycle Parts Accessories, and More, but it doesnt quite have the same attraction as watching Ewan trying to pick up his motorcycle after dropping for the twentieth time on his trek through Mongolia....

I'm Mike, I have a website called Motorcycle Parts, Accessories and More which I post to on a regular basis, but I wanted somewhere I could spout off without fear of upsetting my "regulars" hence this blog. If I upset you with my view on life on two wheels, let me apologise in advance, but it wont make any difference.
What to talk about? where to start might be a better question. Some of the topics I have in mind are

over commercialisation of biker gatherings
Valentino Rossi; what is he on?
what are Ducati playing at?
Helmet laws
crap biker programmes on TV
good biker programmes on TV (are there any good ones?)
Anything else that gets on my nerves (so watch out Tuetels)

If I think of anything useful to say, obviously I will completely disregard it in favour of the first mindless drivel that comes into my head.

So look out for some more mundane, boring blog postings in the near future....
